Content Creation and Marketing, What’s Been Happening Since I Last Posted

by Jim on February 16, 2016

It has been quite some time since I last posted and I have gone through a number of changes in my business. A couple of years ago, I realized that I was just trying to do too much. I remember being at a meeting where I was asked to introduce myself give an overview of what I do. When I finished, someone asked if I ever slept? I thought to myself that I really needed to look at what I was doing and decide how to best move forward.

I have this thing about the word DECIDE. Most people think it means to choose something, but when you look at it, you find the root is in killing off; homicide, genocide, patricide, etc. Where most people have problems is not in choosing something, but in killing off other possibilities.

So, I went through the process and decided there were some areas that I needed to stop focusing on and others that I knew I should focus on but was not. I had not been putting much effort into new things at Resonnect.

My partner and wife, Cynthia, and I had already decided to re-energize Resonnect’s business. We had always been at the forefront of new technologies for business but had fallen behind. After looking at possibilities, we decided to look at where business technologies were going and who were some driving forces in that space.

We began taking courses, networking, joining Mastermind Groups and collaborating with mentors and like-minded individuals absorbing as much as possible. We also found out that San Diego County is the home of a number of industry leaders focused on Internet Marketing, video, webinars, publishing and Content Marketing. People like Frank Kerns, Mike Koenigs, Ed Rush, Pam Hendrickson, Andy Jenkins and Mike Filsaime to name a few.

I have also learned about the concept of Content Marketing and how easy it is to create content using one media type and then distributing it through a number of different media platforms. For example, you can create some content using a video platform like YouTube Live where they provide you with an mp4 movie of your session. You can then have the audio transcribed for use in printed media like blog posts, white papers, e-books or published books. You can also use the video in training courses, marketing pieces describing what you do, Video podcasts, or to get individual messages in the hands of people you want to connect with.

In any event, over the next few weeks, I am going to put up individual posts describing what I have learned and now use. In the next post, I will go over one of the most amazing areas I would have never tried but has had the most impact on what I do, creating and publishing a book!
